Capable of attaining high speeds with gas turbine drive. Nicknamed
"Flying Tank". Relatively small number built. Can fire laser guided
rocket 9M117 Refleks (NATO AT-11 Sniper) from main gun. Gun can
fire a variety of ammunition including AP, APDS, HEAT and HE-Frag. The 125mm gun
is fed by an automatic loader. External fuel tanks extend range. The tank is
protected by ERA armor at the front and gill type armor panels elsewhere. A
ballistic computer and gun stabilizer are standard equipment as well as an NBC
system, night vision, snorkel and fire suppression. A total of 320 T-80 UD tanks
were ordered and delivered to Pakistan. Some 6000 were produced by the time the
Soviet Union ceased to exist.
